Hi everyone! In June 2021 QT Alternative is still working! I had to reinstall Adobe programs that require QuickTime to work with .mov files.
The real QT programs have constantly being crashing on mi PC.
The developers have saved me, QT Alternative works better than the Covid vaccines.
Thank you, guys!

quick time alternative is a good choice if you want the quick time codec only for work with a lot of programs (adobe After Effect).
I am on Windows XP SP3 and since I installed Quicktime Alternative several programs have been aborting with a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library message: “Runtime Error! R6002 –floating point support not loaded”.
I have tried uninstalling your product and taken various other steps including a system restore but the problem doesn’t go away.
Do you have any ideas?
Many thanks.
Apple is a bastard, and stops all the universal non-Mac users from completing their works.
Apple is the biggest evil enemy against all Microsoft users. If you are a Microsoft user, dont ever use Apple, otherwise your computer will go to garbage at most 1 year from today.

hi,
today i installed QT Alternative because QT had stopped working (once again!) due to y deleting of other Apple stuff i thought did not need.
so now thanks to QT Alternative, i can open .mid files, but.... they are silent ? o_0 what did i do wrong ?
thank you for any insight :-)
cheers,
dpg
ps: i tried to ask this on the forum but could not register for some reason (never received the confirmation email)
It silently "updated" itself to a full quicktime bloat ware install WITHOUT my concent.
Had to manually uninstall it along with some other components, then I had to hunt on my computer and suppress several leftover folders and files.
Finally, had to run a registry and system scanner to completely remove it.
I will never install ANYTHING Apple on my PC EVER!!!
We really need a NON-Apple quicktime player.
QuickTime Alternative is not meant to be used together with QuickTime. Hence the name. Duh.
Uninstall both and you should be able to install QuickTime properly again
Try to avoid this crap as far as you can. I've used this codec for couple of years on many computers and I thought that mov files never will be played fluently. And when I uninstalled this codec then I got flash of insight.
Media Player Classic with ffdshow is enough to play mov files. 100 times better then Quicktime Alternative. Now I don't know for what this codec is developed. It does nothing beside spoiling playing mov files.
thank you very much. I do not use english. Sorry

Probably you are watching HD files, and did not name the extension .hdmov, as recommended. Ive had smooth videos watching 1080p movie trailers, and this is with a Pentium D.

Unable to get this version to work with Vista Ultimate or Home Premium. 1.81 worked fine...this one doesn't launch when I click on trailer link.
My recommendation...go find 1.81 somewhere on net.
Been using this for a long time. It $uck$ that Apple (which $uck$) is making CodecGuru stop his work. ReaMedia did it too and RealMedia $uck$ even more.
Movie trailers can be found elsewhere. Try IMDB (not sure if it is quicktime based)
Try finding movie converters that can convert these to different formats. Handbrake and AVIDemux come to mind. Other ones that are GUI front-ends to mencoder are good too. Google for Gizmo's Freeware for more convertors/editors (AVIDemux is more of an editor but can convert as well)

Unfortunately, QT Alternative 3.22 DOES NOT work properly with the newest version of the ITunes64 app. Please, CodecGuru, make a new version, or pass it onto someone else willing to take up your work! It's an almost guaranteed bet that Apple's elitist idiots quietly found out who CodecGuru really was and sent him a nasty little letter reminiscent of the IRS! BOYCOTT APPLE!
i had problems with QT not initializing (error 2093) and odd behaviour in settings panes as alredy mentioned in this thread. after much searching and countless cleanings and reinstalls i found nothing, but somehow the old brain kicked in:
went to add remove programs saw an old microsoft visual c++ 2005 redistributable(which is a prerequisite for QT) uninstalled that installed QTalternative(comes with visual c++ 2005 redistributable) everything was fixed: opera, firefox, zoomplayer, mediaplayer(classic). even the original player from apple worked again(don't install alternative and original at once!).
hope this helps

Quicktime doesn't play well on Windows 7 64bit as of today. Thanks to QT Alternative 3.11, I am now enjoying trailers on Firefox without any issue. What a joy!!!

I also had problems when trying to access the settings. Also trying to view Apple Trailers crashes Firefox. Tried v3.0 and all seems ok.
I installed 3.10 on three systems running XP, and there were problems on two of them. While I could still play QT files fine, when I go to QT settings, things became odd.
It would not save any registration info, no matter how many times I entered it. When I click on ABOUT, it would show version 0.0.0.0. Clicking on the AUDIO pane would crash QT. The FILE TYPES pane was almost completely blank.
Reinstalling 3.01 corrected the problem.
QuickTime Alternative 2.9.2 (contains Quicktime version 7.6.2) does not work for itunes 9.0, which requires Quicktime version 7.6.4.
Why under configuration Quicktime pro is asking me for 4 My registration information?
I thought by downloading the alternative I wouldn't have to register (QT Pro). Quick time was not installed on this computer before. I installed your Quicktime Alternative so I could play .mov files from some edu classes. I'm using Win 7 Ultimate OS, for some reason MCE will play them but The 64bit MediaPlayer does not recognize didn't recognize format. What is the Registration code for Quick time pro/alterntive
I would appreciate your help.
To all those having problems with QTA 2.X., here's the solution: update your graphics drivers - if possible, to the latest versions. I have just done so. And now I can download & watch any qt based clip, without the phenomenon of "browser blocking". (For example, if you have installed NVIDIA Forceware 94.24 WHQL drivers, as I did, please update them to NVIDIA Forceware 185.85 WHQL version. This can also solve some Media Player blockages!)
Unfortunately, this version of QTA is not working as fine as the previous ones. I think that the developers were in a big rush, if they delivered it without testing it enough. Yes, the enclosed download tool is still usable: you can use it to download, and then, to watch HD clips, either in your default browser, either with your favourite Media player. But I encountered unexplainable problems, with QTA, when I visited the website belonging to Apple Computer. Here's the URL: http://www.apple.com/trailers/. When I tried to watch some trailers, my browser has BLOCKED itself. In fact, with all the usual browsers I have had the same problem. Finally, QTA allowed me to see some clips. But not all of them. I do not know the "internal criterion" after which QTA guides itself, in rejecting/accepting to render certain movies. All the QTA settings were those provided by the default install. I do not know why this version has such a behavior. Maybe the guilt (the bugs) belongs to Apple.

Wow Sean, nice of you to skew the rating with a '1' because you somehow can't find the overly-large text that says "Download QuickTime Alternative" at the top of the page. Maybe the internet just isn't for you (or tying your shoes for that matter)?.
Royce: Thanks for the confirm that DL'ing is working again, it's been a long while since that feature has functioned correctly for me (been using VLC to stream/save the HD's).
Flawless and generous program, another reason why community is ALWAYS better than corporation.
Nice waste of time. IF the program exists, and IF there is a place to download it on the page, it is cleverly hidden, so unless it is available for download it's not of much use.
This installer has a trojan, I am aware of false positives so don't try to brush me aside saying I'm some noob that doesn't know what I'm talking about. This is the only installer that has been flagged by my antivirus (Kaspersky). Use your common sense before downloading this, try from another source...
Admin's Note: We stopped providing direct download links for QuickTime Alternative, few months ago. You didn't download it from codecs.com
On fully updated XP-sp3:
I installed QTA 2.7 and had to de-install due to Explorer.exe crashing more than 10 times per hour. Also, Process-Explorer showed Firefox 3 with over 1000 thread context switches per second (with only a blank page loaded). Threads panel showed QTA to be causing 600 context switches per second.
Obviously, something is not right... I'll try again when a new release comes out. After de-install, my whole system is stable again.
"QuickTime Alternative does not include any DirectShow filters. You can't use it directly together with DirectShow players."
Yep. Quicktime Alternative 1.81 was the last version to support DirectShow. I think 1.81 was the last version before Apple complained. What I do is install 1.81, then install the latest (2.70 at time of writing) without uninstalling 1.81.
Free-Codecs needs to update the description.

Can't use iTunes 8 with 2.7.0 installed, iTunes reports a missing quicktime component. iTunes 7 worked with 2.6 installed just fine.
@lb
QuickTime Alternative does not include any DirectShow filters. You can't use it directly together with DirectShow players. THIS IS CLEARLY MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE INSTALLATION!
This main purpose of this package is to play QuickTime stuff in your Internet browser.
If you want to play .mov files with a DirectShow player then use one of the following solutions:
1) Use Media Player Classic, that can directly use QuickTime for playing files.
2) Install MediaLooks QT Source filter. That is a DirectShow filter that can use QuickTime for decoding.
3) Install a codec pack.
It is unable to handle MOV video from digital cameras, Panasonic, Casio )... Directly Windows´ direct show manager will newer choose QTA if Nero MP4 Splitter or Haali Media Splitter are installed. If they are not, than it is not able to handle audio MS ADPCM in these containers. When I try to build direct show graf using QTA in tool Editgraph it is not able to connect any filter on output sound pin of QTA splitter. I think the QTA is absolutely for nothing this time. For example KMPlayer works without any problem or K-Lite codeck pack as well. They handle mov files using KM-Player internal MOV splitter and Apple Video or Audio Handler (in K-Lite codeckpack). QTA disapointed me very much.
