No longer developed

1Click DVDTOIPOD is no longer updated by its developer - the last version here is from 2022. It may still run, but it gets no fixes for newer Windows versions or formats.

Maintained alternatives that may do the same job:

1Click DVDTOIPOD is a shareware program from LG Software Innovations that turned a DVD into video files for the iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

It can no longer be bought, because the developer has stopped selling every 1Click product and license renewal.

Apple stopped making the iPod in 2022 as well, so today this page mainly serves people who already own a license.

What 1Click DVDTOIPOD Actually Does

You put a DVD in the drive, pick your device and press start. The program finds the main movie or the separate TV episodes by itself and writes one video file per movie or per episode, sized for Apple's portable screens.

It handles NTSC and PAL discs, lets you trade picture quality against file size, and can zoom a widescreen picture to fill a smaller screen. Audio and subtitle languages are chosen from a right-click menu rather than the main window.

There is no preview, no trimming and no manual chapter selection. That made it quick for casual users and frustrating for anyone who wanted control.

The License Situation

The program was always a paid trial, not freeware. The developer's site now says 1Click products are no longer for sale, so a new trial cannot be turned into a full copy.

Existing license holders can still get the final build, version 3.2.2.3, from the LG Software Innovations download page. Our download page carries 3.2.2.1 plus an older 3.1.2.6 installer.

The same notice covers 1Click DVD Copy and 1Click DVD Converter, so switching to a sibling product does not get around it.

Who Can Still Use It

If you bought a license years ago and still have the key, the last build installs and does what it always did. It also suits an old video iPod that refuses the large files modern tools produce by default.

The tell that you should look elsewhere is simple. If you never paid for it, there is nowhere left to pay, and the trial is a dead end.

What to Use Instead

Any recent iPhone or iPad plays an ordinary MP4 file, so you no longer need a converter built around one brand of device. Free, maintained tools cover the whole job.

  • HandBrake converts video files and unprotected DVDs to MP4, with ready-made presets for Apple devices. It is free and open source, but it will not read copy-protected discs.
  • MakeMKV copies a disc you own into an MKV file without re-encoding. You can then shrink that file for your phone in HandBrake.
  • VLC Media Player plays DVDs and almost any video file on your PC. If you only want to watch, it skips conversion entirely.

Most store-bought DVDs carry copy protection, which our guide to DVD region codes and CSS explains. Copying them is restricted by law in many countries, even for discs you own.

Before converting a file you already have, open it in MediaInfo. If it is H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4, it will usually play on an iPhone as it is.

Other DVD-to-iPod tools from the same era, such as Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter, are frozen too. For current options, browse the Mobile Devices category.

Quick questions

Is 1Click DVDTOIPOD free?

No. It is shareware, and the developer no longer sells licenses, so the trial cannot be unlocked any more.

What is the latest version?

The developer lists 3.2.2.3 as the final build for license holders. Our download page offers 3.2.2.1 and an older 3.1.2.6.

Does it still work with an iPhone?

Its files play on iPhones and iPads, but you do not need it for that. HandBrake makes the same kind of MP4 for free.

Can I still buy a license?

No. LG Software Innovations has ended sales and license renewals for all its 1Click products.

Can it copy any DVD?

It was built for movie and TV DVDs, but copying protected discs is restricted by law in many countries. Check the rules where you live before you start.

Download 1Click DVDTOIPOD 3.2.2.1 if you still need it, or tell us what you used it for if you have history with it.
