Snappy Driver Installer Origin, or SDIO, finds and installs missing or outdated drivers on Windows, even with no internet connection.

It runs from a folder or USB stick with no installation, using driver packs you download once and reuse on any PC.

Version 2.0.6 is the current release, and SDIO is free and open source, with no ads or bundled software.

What SDIO Actually Does

SDIO scans your hardware, compares it with its driver packs, and lists every device that has no driver or an older one. You tick what to install, and it sets a restore point first if you ask it to.

Its classic use is a freshly installed PC that cannot get online because the network driver is missing. With the packs on a USB stick, SDIO fixes that without any internet at all.

A Word on Driver Tools and Safety

Drivers run at the deepest level of Windows, so a bad one can cause crashes or a blue screen. Install only the drivers you need, and let SDIO make a restore point before it changes anything.

For your graphics card, the maker's own tool is still the best source: NVIDIA App or AMD Adrenalin.

Intel graphics users should take the Intel Graphics Driver directly. SDIO shines for everything else, such as chipset, network, audio and card readers.

SDIO Is Not the Old Snappy Driver Installer

The original Snappy Driver Installer changed hands years ago, and later versions came with advertising and promoted software. SDIO is the fork that stayed clean: free, open source and with no ads, maintained by Glenn Delahoy.

Several look-alike sites offer "Snappy" downloads with extras bundled in. Check that the file you run is named SDIO, like the SDIO_2.0.6.889.zip on our download page.

What Is New in Version 2

Version 2 rebuilt the update code, fixed the long-standing bad_cast error and made IPv6 work properly. It also brought a cleaner new theme and a share mode that helps distribute driver packs without a separate torrent program.

There is also a special build with no torrent code at all, for offices and schools that block torrent traffic.

Getting Started

1. Get the zip from the download page and extract it to a folder or USB stick.
2. Run SDIO_x64_R889.exe on 64-bit Windows, or the R889 file without x64 on 32-bit Windows.
3. Let it download the driver packs you need. Network drivers are the ones to grab first for fresh installs.
4. Tick the devices to update, turn on the restore point option, and press Install.

Full driver packs take many gigabytes, so use a large USB stick if you want every category.

On a healthy Windows 10 or 11 PC, Windows Update already installs most drivers. You may not need a driver tool at all unless a device shows a warning in Device Manager.
