Elecard StreamEye 4.3

Elecard StreamEye is a professional video stream analyzer that lets engineers look inside an encoded file frame by frame, down to macroblocks, motion vectors and bitrate.

Elecard still sells and updates it, but the 4.3 demo hosted here was added in 2017, while the current release is StreamEye Studio 2026.

If you only want to know which codec, resolution or bitrate a file uses, a free tool such as MediaInfo answers that in seconds.

What Elecard StreamEye Actually Does

StreamEye opens an encoded video stream and shows how the encoder built it. Every frame is listed with its type, size and timestamp, and you can lay macroblock types, motion vectors, quantizers and slice boundaries over the picture.

It also graphs average, peak and instant bitrate, which is how broadcast and streaming teams check that a stream follows the standard and stays inside its budget. It is an inspection tool, not an encoder, so it never compresses or converts anything.

The Old Build Versus the Current Release

The 4.3 demo here comes as separate 32-bit and 64-bit Windows installers and targets the formats of its day, MPEG-2 and H.264 among them. Newer codecs such as AV1, VVC/H.266 and APV are only covered by the current StreamEye Studio.

According to Elecard's StreamEye page, the current version runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11, macOS and Ubuntu. It reads MPEG-2, H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, VVC, AVS3 and APV, in containers from MPEG-TS and MP4 to MKV and HLS playlists.

What It Costs

StreamEye is commercial software priced for engineering teams, with a full edition and a cheaper StreamEye Basic. Elecard's evaluation licence runs for 30 days and only lets you jump to positions within the first 84 frames.

The demo licence also cannot be activated inside a virtual machine or over a remote desktop session. If you are seriously evaluating it, get the current trial from Elecard's download page rather than this older build.

Who Should Look Elsewhere

The tell is simple: if you have never needed to know what a quantizer is, StreamEye is more tool than you need. Most people searching for it want to identify a file, check its quality or fix playback, and free tools do all three.

For playback problems, a decoder set such as LAV Filters fixes far more than any analyzer will. The rest of the codec identifiers category covers simpler file inspection.

• BetterMediaInfo - the same codec, profile and bitrate report as MediaInfo, in a cleaner Windows 11 style interface.
• Netflix VMAF - scores an encode against its source from 0 to 100, so you can see how much quality the compression cost.
• FFmpeg - its ffprobe tool lists every frame with its type, size and timestamp, the core of what StreamEye shows.

To make test encodes worth analyzing, x264 gives you full control over H.264 settings. HandBrake wraps the same encoders in a friendlier interface.
