About the Fake Error Message Generator

This is a free, browser-based error dialog image generator that creates pixel-accurate fake system error messages for any operating system. Pick a style, set the icon and buttons, write your title and message text, then download the result as a clean PNG with no watermark.

Eight OS styles are included: Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS Big Sur, macOS Classic, and Linux GNOME and KDE. Each style uses authentic typography, gradients, button shapes, and window chrome to match what users actually see on those systems.

You can also use Show Fullscreen mode to display the error live on a friend's computer for in-person pranks - the dialog appears in the center of a darkened screen and exits with the Esc key.

How to Use

1. Pick an operating system style - Match it to whatever computer or screenshot you'll be pairing the error with.

2. Choose an icon - Error (red X) is the most common, but Warning, Info, and Question all have valid uses.

3. Pick which buttons to show - OK alone, OK/Cancel, Yes/No, Abort/Retry/Ignore, or Retry/Cancel.

4. Write the title and message - Keep the title short (under 50 characters), and the message to 1-3 sentences for best results.

5. Add an error code (optional) - Realistic codes like 0x80070643 or 0xC0000005 add authenticity.

6. Download as PNG or show fullscreen - Save the image to your computer or display it live on screen.
