Samsung and Google have launched Eclipsa Audio, a royalty-free spatial audio format aimed at rivaling Dolby Atmos.
The format will be available on all 2025 Samsung TVs and soundbars, offering a cost-effective alternative for immersive sound.
With thin profit margins in TV manufacturing, royalty-free audio technologies like Eclipsa Audio appeals to TV makers.
Eclipsa is part of a broader push by Google and Samsung to compete with Dolby’s dominance.
The companies are pairing Eclipsa Audio with HDR10+ to challenge both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
YouTube is currently the only major streaming platform supporting Eclipsa Audio, signaling a cautious start for industry adoption.
