Seems to load OK on a Win 7 Pro machine, but will not open .ivf video files.

Yep - works a treat on Windows 7 - IF you use custom install and uncheck the Web Browser box.
How exactly do you do a custom install of this?

Can't install on vista 64 bit SP2 :(

no good on xp 2 even after disabling the web browser, all it did was play the sound

Doesn't install on XP
The setup app runs in seconds, but when I try to run an application I still get the message that I dont have the codec

Just do what the comment below says.
Select custom install
then
Disable the web plug-in (It is the last checkbox).
Worked the first time.

Will not install. I wind up waiting 20-30 minutes at the "Searching for instances of Netscape. Please wait..." screen before getting frustrated and quitting the installation.

I did a custom installation and disabled the web plugin option. It works like a charm.

This would not install. The Setup program ran, and so did an iv50install program. The problem is that they just ran in the background with no windows. System Internals Process Explorer sees the processes, but reports no windows are available to bring to the forground. So all one can do is start the installation, then kill it with task manager or something. So it just won't install on my XP/SP2 dual CPU system
