Wink is Meitu's free AI video enhancer for Android that sharpens blurry footage, upscales old clips towards 4K and retouches faces in video, free to use with ads and a watermark on exports, with a paid VIP subscription to remove both.
Wink takes a blurry, shaky or ten-year-old video clip and rebuilds it into something you would not mind posting.
It is Meitu's AI repair app for Android: one tap sharpens soft footage, upscales low-resolution clips towards 4K, cleans up night shots and retouches faces in moving video.
The app is free to install and use with ads and a watermark on exports, and a Wink VIP subscription removes both and unlocks the heavier AI models.
What Wink Actually Does
Most phone video editors cut, trim and add music to footage that was already fine. Wink starts one step earlier, with footage that is not fine, and tries to fix it.
The main tool is the quality enhancer. Feed it a 480p or 720p clip and it produces a sharper, larger version, with a strength slider so the result does not tip into the smeared, over-processed look that gives AI upscaling a bad name.
Around that sit seven scene-specific models - old footage, gaming clips, night-out video and so on - plus an Auto mode that guesses which fix a clip needs. There is also a batch mode, an unblur tool for out-of-focus shots, and an old-video restore setting for faded or pixelated transfers.
The Retouching Half
Wink came out of Meitu's beauty-app family, and it shows. The retouch tools work on video rather than stills: skin smoothing, fill light for dark faces, teeth whitening, wrinkle and eye-bag softening, jawline and face shaping, makeup filters and a hair colour changer.
The useful technical detail is multi-face detection, which lets you adjust each person in a group clip separately, and a background lock so body reshaping does not warp the wall behind someone. Everything is adjustable and nothing is applied until you export.
On top of that there are the trend tools: a DigiCam filter for the Y2K digital camera look, anime and cartoon avatar styles, animated live wallpapers from a photo, and auto subtitles in ten or so languages.
What Is Free and What Costs Money
The free tier is genuinely usable: the enhancer, the retouch tools and the templates all work without paying, with ads in the interface and a Wink watermark on every export.
Wink VIP is a subscription billed weekly, monthly or yearly through Google Play. It removes the watermark and the ads, lifts the cap on 4K enhancement, unlocks the premium AI models and exclusive effects, and puts your jobs at the front of the processing queue.
The VIP trial converts into a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, and cancelling has to be done in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions, not inside the app. A large share of the app's negative reviews describe an unexpected renewal charge, so if you start the trial, set a reminder the same day.
If you only want the watermark gone and do not care about 4K, a free editor is the cheaper route. VN Video Editor and YouCut both export clean, but neither will repair footage the way Wink does.
Modded and VIP-Unlocked APKs
A modded Wink build is the real app repackaged by a third party and signed with a different key. That breaks normal updates, and since Wink's enhancement models run on Meitu's servers rather than on your phone, a patched app cannot unlock server-side VIP processing whatever its listing promises.
If a file claiming to be Wink came from somewhere other than Google Play or a mirror you trust, run it through the APK Checker before installing. It reports the package name and signing certificate, and a mismatch with the official com.meitu.wink signature is the tell.
Installing the XAPK
The download is an XAPK - a bundle of the base app plus split files for your screen size and processor - rather than a single APK. Android's built-in installer does not open these, so the steps are slightly different.
- Install an XAPK-capable installer app first, or rename the file to .zip and extract the APK files inside it.
- Allow installs from unknown sources for that installer, or for your file manager, when Android asks.
- Open the XAPK with the installer and let it install the base APK and its splits together. Installing only the base file usually ends in "App not installed".
Our piece on how to install an APK safely covers the unknown-sources step, and why some APKs refuse to open explains the split-bundle problem in more detail.
Wink needs Google Play services for sign-in and billing. Run the file through the Play Store Check if you are installing on a device without the Play Store, such as a Huawei phone or a de-Googled ROM.
Where Your Video Goes
The heavy AI work is not done on the phone. Clips are uploaded to Meitu's servers, processed there and sent back, which is why enhancement needs a connection and why a 4K job can take a few minutes.
The data-safety card on the Google Play listing states that the app may share photos and videos with third parties and collects personal information, with data encrypted in transit and a deletion request available. That is the standard arrangement for a cloud enhancer, but it is worth knowing before you upload anything private.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
The tell is what you are starting with. If the clip already looks good and you want to cut, layer and add text, Wink is the wrong tool and CapCut is the one to open, with InShot as the lighter option.
If your problem is photos rather than video, Remini is built specifically for rebuilding blurry stills and does that one job better. Hypic covers photo retouching and AI art for free.
For photo editing without any AI upload at all, Snapseed and the open-source Image Toolbox both work entirely on the phone.
Adobe Lightroom is the serious colour tool if grading matters more than repair.
And if the footage is blurry because of how it was shot, fixing it afterwards is the slow way. Blackmagic Camera gives you manual focus and exposure on a phone, and XRecorder captures the screen cleanly in the first place.
Playing Back the Result
Exports are standard MP4 files and play anywhere. If a 4K export stutters on an older phone, that is the phone's decoder rather than the file - VLC for Android and MX Player both handle high-resolution playback in software when the hardware will not.
What You Need
- Android 8.0 or newer.
- About 240 MB for the download and a good deal more for the app's cache once you start enhancing clips.
- An internet connection for every enhancement, because the processing runs on Meitu's servers.
- Google Play services for sign-in, VIP billing and the free trial.
What Is New in 3.15.5
- Two new lip effects in Face Retouch, Pout and Dainty Lip.
- Face Symmetry added to AI Beauty, for balancing features across both sides of a face.
- Video Beauty moved onto the home screen, so the retouch tools are one tap away.
- Sharing now includes Threads alongside the existing targets.
Quick questions
Is Wink free?
Yes, with ads and a watermark on exports. The enhancer, retouch tools and templates all work on the free tier. Wink VIP is an optional subscription that removes the watermark and ads and unlocks unlimited 4K enhancement and the premium models.
How do I cancel the Wink free trial?
In Google Play, not in the app: open Play, tap your profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel Wink there. Do it at least 24 hours before the trial ends or it converts to a paid plan.
Does Wink work offline?
No. The AI enhancement runs on Meitu's servers, so every upscale, unblur or restore job needs a connection. Basic trimming and browsing your projects work offline.
Why will the XAPK not install?
Because Android's own installer only understands single APK files. An XAPK is a bundle and needs an installer app that can handle it, or you extract the APKs inside and install the base plus the matching split files together.
Wink or Remini?
Wink for video, Remini for photos. Both use cloud AI to rebuild detail, but Remini is tuned for stills and portraits, while Wink handles moving footage and adds the retouch and effects tools on top.
Can a mod APK unlock VIP?
Not the parts that matter. VIP processing happens on Meitu's servers and is tied to your account, so a patched app can at most hide the paywall screens. It also breaks updates and is signed by someone other than Meitu.
The rest of the Android APK category covers the players, editors and camera apps that sit around a tool like this.
