Amazon's Kindle Click Brings Page-Turn Buttons Back - Here's Which Kindles It Works With

Amazon has put physical page-turn buttons back on the Kindle - as two add-on accessories rather than a new reader.

The Kindle Click is a $34.99 Bluetooth remote, and the Page-Turn Cover is a $79.99 case with the buttons built in.

Both were announced on October 1 alongside Amazon's refreshed Kindle lineup, and both ship on October 28.

The catch is compatibility, so check that before you preorder.

What the Kindle Click Actually Does

The Click is a small remote with two equal-sized buttons - one for the next page, one for the previous page. You pair it with your Kindle over Bluetooth, and it comes with a wrist strap so you can hold it without thinking about it.

Amazon pitches it for reading under the covers, on a treadmill, or with the Kindle propped on an airplane tray table. It is also a real help for anyone who finds tapping a screen awkward, tiring or painful.

Which Kindles Work With It

Amazon says the Click works with the new Kindles announced this week and with any Kindle model released in 2024 or later. Older Kindles are not on the list.

Not sure how old yours is? Open your Amazon account, go to Manage Your Content and Devices, then Devices - each Kindle is listed with its full name and generation, which you can match against the compatibility list on the Click's product page.

The Page-Turn Cover Is Much Pickier

The $79.99 Page-Turn Cover snaps on magnetically and adds physical buttons to the edge of the reader. It draws power through pogo pins, the small metal contacts on the back of the device, so there is nothing extra to charge.

Those pins only exist on the Signature Edition models, so the cover fits just two readers: the new Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Colorsoft Signature Edition. The standard Paperwhite, the basic Kindle and every older model cannot use it.

Accessory Price Works with Pick it if
Kindle Click $34.99 New Kindles and any Kindle from 2024 or later You want to turn pages without holding the reader at all
Page-Turn Cover $79.99 Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Edition only You miss the feel of buttons under your thumb

Why Buttons Are Coming Back

The Kindle Oasis was the last Kindle with page-turn buttons built into the body, and Amazon no longer sells it. Since then, every Kindle on sale has been touchscreen only, and plenty of readers have missed the buttons.

Rivals got there first. Kobo sells its own Bluetooth remote and BOOX sells the Tappy, both at $29.99, so Amazon is catching up here rather than inventing something new.

Fair warning: $35 for two buttons, or $80 for a cover, is a lot for something the Oasis simply had. If you only turn pages from the couch, the touchscreen still does the job for free.

Getting Your Own Books Onto the Kindle

A page-turn remote is only as good as the library behind it, and plenty of readers have EPUB books from outside Amazon's store. Amazon's Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB files directly, so there is no need to convert them to MOBI first - Amazon stopped accepting MOBI for new documents in 2022.

Got old MOBI files from years back? Convertico's free MOBI to EPUB converter turns them into EPUB right in your browser, ready to send.

For a messy folder of mixed formats, the free Calibre ebook manager sorts your library, fixes titles and covers, and converts anything the Kindle will not open. If you read comics or manga, Kindle Comic Converter resizes each page to fit your exact Kindle screen.

Want the same books on your PC as well? Kindle for PC opens your Amazon purchases on Windows and syncs your last page. And if a tablet is your reader instead, our guide on turning a tablet into an ebook reader covers the best apps and settings.

About DRM: books bought from the Kindle Store are locked to Amazon's apps and devices. Calibre and other converters cannot open or convert them, and that is by design, not a bug in the tool.

Quick questions

How much is the Kindle Click and when does it ship?

The Kindle Click costs $34.99 and ships on October 28, 2026. Preorders opened on October 1.

Does the Kindle Click work with my older Kindle?

Only if it was released in 2024 or later. Amazon lists the new Kindles and any Kindle model from 2024 onward as compatible, and older models are not supported.

Will the Page-Turn Cover fit a regular Paperwhite?

No. It needs the pogo pins found only on the Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Colorsoft Signature Edition.

Does the Page-Turn Cover need charging?

No. It takes power from the Kindle through the pogo pins, so there is no separate battery to keep topped up.

Is there a Kindle with page-turn buttons built in?

Not one Amazon still sells. The Kindle Oasis was the last, and the Page-Turn Cover is now the closest thing to it.

Can I read my own EPUB books on a Kindle?

Yes. Send to Kindle accepts EPUB files directly, and the free Calibre ebook manager can convert other formats and tidy your library first.

Buttons are back on the Kindle, as long as your reader is from 2024 or later.
