Free movies on IPTV are real, but what you get is live movie channels, not a free Netflix - here is what that means, where to get the channels legally, and the free apps that let you pick the film yourself.

Most free movie lists for IPTV fall into one of two groups.
The first is free movie channels that play films around the clock, streamed openly by the services that own them.
The second is pirated lists of new releases, which stop working within days and are a common way to spread malware.
For live movie channels, copy our free Movies IPTV playlist into VLC or any IPTV app. To choose a film and press play, install a free app like Tubi or Pluto TV - both are free with ads.
What a free movie channel actually is
A movie channel works like old-fashioned TV. Each channel plays films on a schedule, so you join whatever is on, often halfway through.
Most of the free ones come from FAST services - free, ad-supported TV - such as Pluto TV and Rakuten TV. Expect westerns, classics, comedy, horror and action, with plenty of channels in Spanish, Hindi, Polish and other languages.
What you will not get is a film from this year's cinemas, or a list of films to choose from. Nobody streams those for free legally. Our guide to free popular IPTV playlists covers the other kinds of free channels.
Get the free movie channels playlist
- Open the Movies playlist. Go to our free Movies IPTV playlist page.
- Copy the link or download the file. TV apps load playlists from a link. Desktop players like VLC can take either.
- Paste it into your player. In VLC, use Media, then Open Network Stream. In an IPTV app, look for Add playlist, then M3U or URL.
- Pick a channel. The list shows every channel by name - double-click or select one and the film that is on starts playing.
The link is short enough to type with a TV remote:
https://www.free-codecs.com/tv/movies.m3uWe test the list automatically and take out channels that stop answering, so it carries several hundred working channels rather than every one ever listed. To hand-pick single channels instead, use the IPTV Channel Finder.
Our guide to watching free TV in VLC covers the player side step by step.
Skip the big pay channels. Public lists sometimes carry names like HBO or Cinemax. Those channels are never free, so a free stream of one is not authorised and usually disappears fast - stick to the channels from free services.
Want to pick the film? Use a free on-demand app
If you want a library you can browse and start from the beginning, a free streaming app does that legally. You watch a few ad breaks instead of paying.
- Tubi. Tens of thousands of films and TV episodes licensed from big studios, mostly older titles. It works in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Mexico and parts of Latin America.
- Pluto TV. Hundreds of live channels plus an on-demand library, run by Paramount. Available in the US, Canada, Latin America and most of Europe.
- Your library card. In some countries, apps like Kanopy and Hoopla lend films for free with a public library membership - worth checking with your local library.
Both apps are licensed country by country, so the films you see depend on where you are, and a VPN does not change what is legal for you to watch.
Why free new-release lists are a bad deal
Lists and apps that promise this month's blockbusters for free are pirated. The links die within days, the apps are often copies stuffed with ads or malware, and in some countries viewers have been fined.
Our look at whether MovieBox is safe shows how one of the biggest of these apps works. For the wider picture, see our guide on whether IPTV is legal.
Which player to use
On a computer, VLC plays the movie playlist with no setup beyond pasting the link. On a TV box or a phone, a dedicated IPTV player shows the channels in a TV-style grid.
Our roundup of the best free IPTV players compares the options for every device, and the same playlist link works in all of them.
Quick questions
Are free movie channels on IPTV legal?
Channels from free, ad-supported services such as Pluto TV and Rakuten TV are streamed openly by their owners. Free streams of pay channels, or lists of new cinema releases, are not authorised.
Can I choose which film to watch?
Not on a movie channel - it plays films on a schedule. For on-demand films, use a free app like Tubi or Pluto TV.
Why do some movie channels not play?
Free streams go offline or only work in their own country. Our playlist drops channels that stop answering, and the M3U Checker tests any list you already have.
Can I watch the movie channels on a Fire TV Stick or Android TV?
Yes. Install an IPTV player on the device, choose Add playlist, then M3U or URL, and type in the short link shown above.
Is there a TV guide for the movie channels?
Some channels have one. IPTV players such as TiviMate show it when the guide data matches the channel. VLC does not show IPTV guides at all.
The bottom line
Free movie channels are a good, legal way to have films playing in the background. To pick a specific film, a free app like Tubi does the job without pirate risks.
