The free plan gives you roughly 300 points a day, refilling every 24 hours. That is fine for a handful of questions on the lighter models and it will not carry a day of heavy use on the expensive ones.
The surprise worth avoiding. Free users usually meet the ceiling while generating images, because a single image can cost more points than a dozen text replies. If Poe suddenly stops answering, you have not been blocked - you are waiting for tomorrow's refill.

This is the comparison that decides it. ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro and Google's paid tier each sit at roughly $20 a month, so running all three costs about $60 and leaves you juggling three apps.
Poe Premium is $19.99 for one login covering the same three, plus everything else in the catalogue, with a single points budget you spend wherever you like.
The honest counter-argument: if you genuinely live in one model all day, a direct subscription to that provider gives you more headroom for the same money, because you are not paying for reach you never use. Poe wins on breadth, not on depth.
Who It Is For - and Who Should Look Elsewhere
Poe suits people whose work spans different kinds of task and who would rather not marry one ecosystem - freelancers, students, anyone who compares outputs as part of the job.
If you want one app that goes deep rather than wide, the standalone ChatGPT app is the obvious one, and Mistral's Vibe is worth a look for a fast, generous free tier at a lower paid price.
If you need a source attached to every claim, Perplexity is built for that, and if your work already lives in Word and Excel, Microsoft Copilot is free and fits the surroundings.
If cost is the whole question, DeepSeek gives its full feature set away, though it is worth reading the privacy trade-offs first.
Monica AI takes a similar multi-model approach to Poe, and is the closest thing to a direct rival if you want to compare the two.
Poe is also overkill if you just want the occasional quick answer. Any free single-model app does that without a points budget to think about.
