mpegable AVC 0.10
mpegable AVC was designed to enable video compression with all applications based on VfW, such as Windows Media Player, VirtualDub, FlaskMPEG, etc.
mpegable AVC has not been developed since 2004 and support and distribution have also been discontinued.
The compression rate provided by mpegable AVC was amazing for its time; it reduced a DVD to half its size. The application was based on the latest MPEG standard at the moment, MPEG-4 AVC or H.264.
The AVI files created with mpegable AVC can be played in any DirectShow-based media player and various editing options can be applied, such as configuring bitrate, choosing the encoding speed and selecting the key frame interval.
Some of the mpegable AVC’s features are supporting various colorspaces (RGB24 for input and RGB24, YUY2 and UYVY as output), supporting MPEG-4 AVC or H.264 video, providing image resolutions that are multiple of 2, handling bitrates from 54 kBit per second to 8MB per second, real-time decoding up to CCIR (720 x 576) resolution and real-time encoding up to CIF (352 x 288) resolution.
The last version of mpegable AVC, 0.10, was improved with scene cut detection and optimized rate control.
mpegable AVC is outdated, but it may still be helpful for those using older machines and for whom updating the operating system does not represent a viable option.
