MediaHuman Lyrics Finder 1.7.3

Lyrics Finder scans the songs you point it at, searches around a dozen lyrics sites in turn, and saves whatever it finds as a tag inside the audio file itself.

The words then travel with the music, so any player that reads lyrics tags will show them without the app being involved again.

MediaHuman gives it away with no paid tier, no trial timer and no upsell, which is worth saying plainly because most of the company's other products are not free.

Where the Lyrics Actually Come From

The app works through a list of lyrics sites in order and stops at the first usable match, skipping any source that is slow to answer. As of version 1.7.3 that list covers Genius, MusixMatch, AZLyrics, lrclib.net, Bandcamp, Letras, flowlez, lyrics.ovh, NetEase, QQ Music and Kugou, with a Bing search available as a fallback.

You can reorder that list or switch individual sites off in the settings, which is worth doing if one source keeps handing you the wrong song for the kind of music you listen to. MediaHuman puts the combined pool at over a million lyrics.

Synced Lyrics, and Why Your Player May Not Show Them

Since version 1.7 the app can also fetch timed lyrics - the kind that scroll line by line in step with the song - from lrclib.net and MusixMatch. Plain untimed text is still the fallback whenever no synced version exists.

Version 1.7.3 fixed two separate faults that stopped lyrics appearing at all: synced lyrics not showing in some players, and tags being written in a format older players could not read. If you tried an earlier build and nothing ever turned up in foobar2000 or Winamp, that is the bug, and updating is the fix.

When It Finds Nothing

Lyrics Finder searches on the artist and title already stored in each file, so a track tagged "Track 07" with an empty artist field gives it nothing to go on. This is by far the most common reason a batch run comes back half empty.

Version 1.7 softened that considerably by adding fuzzy matching and automatic tag correction through Last.fm, and 1.7.3 added a fallback to the Album Artist tag when the track artist draws a blank, which mostly helps compilations and various-artists albums. Badly tagged files still fail more often than clean ones.

By default the app skips any track that already has lyrics, so pointing it at an entire library is safe and nothing you added by hand gets overwritten. A setting lets you force a fresh search on those files if you would rather replace what is there.

For anything it genuinely cannot find, the built-in editor lets you paste or type the words in yourself, and there is an option to export what you have to a plain text file.

Where It Fits in Your Music Workflow

Because every lookup depends on tag quality, Lyrics Finder belongs near the end of a library clean-up rather than at the start of one.

If your collection still carries wrong artist names, missing album data or unnamed tracks, deal with that first using Mp3tag for hands-on batch editing, or MusicBrainz Picard, which identifies tracks by acoustic fingerprint instead of trusting whatever the filename says.

TagScanner and Kid3 do much the same job with different interfaces, and either is worth a look if Mp3tag does not suit the way you work.

AudioShell takes a different approach again, adding tag editing straight into the Windows Explorer properties dialog so you never open a separate application at all.

Once the tags are clean, Helium Music Manager and MusicBee handle the library side - ratings, smart playlists, play counts - and Lyrics Finder fills the field they leave empty.

MediaMonkey is the other large library manager here and sits in the same place in the chain.

Built-in Player

A small player is built in - play, pause, stop and track skipping - so you can hear a song and check the words match without switching to something else.

It is there for spot checks during a clean-up session rather than as a replacement for XMPlay or Dopamine.

Who Should Look Elsewhere

Open any file's properties and look at the Artist and Title fields. If they are blank, or read back as filenames, Lyrics Finder has nothing to search on and a tag editor is the tool you actually need first.

It also writes only into files you own on disk, so streaming libraries are entirely out of scope - there is nothing in a Spotify or Apple Music subscription for it to write to.

And it fills exactly one field. If what you want is a single application that rips, tags, organises, plays and fetches lyrics, start with a full library manager instead and treat this as the top-up.

Compatibility

The Windows build runs on Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11 in both 32-bit and 64-bit, which is a lower floor than most software still being updated in 2026.

MediaHuman ships three separate Mac builds: one for Apple Silicon, one for Intel, and a legacy build that still covers Mac OS X 10.7 Lion through OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Current builds run all the way up to macOS 26 Tahoe, and the Mac downloads section covers what else is available for those machines.

Linux is supported too, which is easy to miss: Ubuntu 22.04 and later, as 32-bit and 64-bit deb packages, Flatpak builds for x86-64 and ARM, or straight from MediaHuman's own repository.

Format support covers MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, WMA, APE, ALAC and Opus, which is effectively anything with a lyrics tag field. If you are still deciding which of those to keep the collection in, the FLAC and MP3 comparison covers the trade-off.

An internet connection is required, since every lookup is a live query, and the app asks for roughly 50 MB of disk space.

On Android, Musicolet reads embedded lyrics natively, so anything written here survives a sync to your phone with no extra setup.
