Codec Toolbox has a graphical user interface, but it can also be used from command line.
Instructions are found in the application and they can be accessed by clicking on the Readme button.
Some of the features and advantages of this application are:
- being case insensitive, searching the name or CLSID of the codec with the exact match, fixing problems found on condition that your computer runs Windows XP, and opening the configuration of VfW and ACM codecs.
Codec Toolbox runs on most Windows versions, but it is not tested under Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Moreover, it lists all the codecs installed to your computer and it is able to detect broken codecs.
