DVDFab 13.0.5.6

4.06 from 31 Reviews

DVDFab 13 transforms your DVD and Blu-ray collection into digital files stored safely on your hard drive.

Whether you want perfect 1:1 disc clones, compressed backups, or device-ready video files, DVDFab handles the entire workflow from protected disc to finished output.

The software removes common DVD protections including CSS, CPRM, CPPM, RC, RCE, UOPs, APS, RipGuard, ARccOS, Core X2, and FluxDVD automatically during the copy process.

Damaged or scratched discs that other tools reject often complete successfully thanks to advanced error correction.

Most DVDs finish copying in 10-20 minutes depending on your drive speed and output settings.

Copying Modes and Output Options

DVDFab offers several backup approaches depending on your needs.

Full Disc mode creates exact 1:1 clones preserving all menus, extras, and audio tracks - ideal for archival purposes.

Main Movie mode extracts just the primary feature without trailers or bonus content, saving significant storage space.

Clone mode produces sector-by-sector duplicates suitable for burning to blank media using tools like ImgBurn.

For users who prefer digital files over physical backups, the Ripper module converts disc content to AVI, WMV, MP4, 3GP, and MKV formats optimized for various devices.

Output files play immediately in VLC Media Player or integrate seamlessly with media servers like Plex and Jellyfin for whole-home streaming.

Blu-ray Support and HD Content

Beyond DVD handling, DVDFab processes Blu-ray discs including 3D titles and UHD content.

The software maintains original video quality during extraction - critical for preserving the visual fidelity of high-definition sources. Compression options let you fit BD-50 content onto smaller media while minimizing visible quality loss.

Users working primarily with Blu-ray discs should also consider AnyDVD HD for real-time decryption or MakeMKV for lossless extraction to MKV format. Our How to Use MakeMKV for Free guide explains the beta key system for cost-free Blu-ray conversion.

Interface and Workflow

The tabbed interface separates Copy, Ripper, Creator, and Converter functions clearly. A preview panel on the left displays video content - double-click any scene to preview before committing to the full operation.

Default settings work well for most users, while advanced options provide granular control over compression ratios, audio track selection, and subtitle handling.

New users sometimes find DVDFab's feature depth overwhelming initially, but the logical layout becomes intuitive within a few sessions. Preset profiles eliminate guesswork when targeting specific devices or quality levels.

Post-Processing and Workflow Integration

Ripped content often benefits from additional processing. MKVToolNix lets you remove unwanted audio tracks, add external subtitles, or merge multiple files without re-encoding.

For users who want smaller file sizes than DVDFab's direct output, HandBrake or VidCoder re-encode extracted content using efficient H.265/HEVC compression via the x265 encoder.

Building a Blu-ray structure for burning? tsMuxeR muxes video and audio streams into compliant M2TS files ready for disc authoring. BD Rebuilder handles compression when fitting large Blu-rays onto smaller media.

Free vs. Paid Versions

DVDFab operates on a shareware model with time-limited trials for premium features. After the trial expires, basic DVD copying remains available through DVDFab HD Decrypter - a permanently free version with limited but functional capabilities.

Users seeking free alternatives should explore Auto Gordian Knot for DVD-to-AVI conversion or DVD43 for basic decryption.

Playback Solutions

Once your collection is digitized, proper playback software matters. Kodi turns any computer into a full media center with automatic metadata fetching and library organization.

For straightforward file playback without library management, VLC handles every format DVDFab produces.

System Requirements

DVDFab runs on Windows 7 through Windows 11 with both 32-bit and 64-bit support. A DVD or Blu-ray drive is required for disc operations - USB external drives work fine.

Adequate hard drive space depends on your backup approach: full DVD clones need 4-8GB per disc, while Blu-ray content requires 25-50GB for lossless extraction.

Best customer support of any company I’ve ever dealt with. They were very fast in addressing my issue.

Unlike many other companies, they seem to care.

Just downloaded fab 10 and now NOTHING will open. I put a homevideo dvd-r in and get "Failed to open E:[funai_dvd_video].

Please check if it is playable." Now before you say "check the disc" I must state this is the 3rd option. I tried a disc because I first tried dragging a file already on my harddrive to try and compress and got the same thing.

Then I tried to add button and Fab will not open any thing. I opened DVDfab9 and everything is fine. I have no idea why nothing will load in fab10. Anyone else having this issue?
