When you save a thumbnail in Media Player Classic it assigns the letters "thumbs" followed by a string of numerals representing the year, month, day and time to create a filename, unless you manually type in a different filename. Is there any way to make MPC automatically use the name of the file from which the thumbs were created and just add a .jpg or .bmp extension? I create many thumbnail files (sometimes 100s) and this would save me an enormous amount of time. It is the only real complaint I have about MPC.

I HAVE A QUESTION!
I'm new to Vista and I can't seem to use the download for the Vista... Its a compressed zipped folder and it says I need an update my computer to use it... But I originally came looking for an update for my WMM or something along the ling to allow me to play AVI's on my computer.
Please help me, and I didn't want to rate this item but I had no other choice so I just put it as 5/5
All I really wanted was to play my AVI's !!
D;
Oh and I have many other zipped folders, my computer tells me I need to update before I can open them... If you help me with this I would be over joyed... Thank you!

When will there be a MPC file position slider that is STANDARD in ALL the OTHER PLAYERS?
This is the only thing that keeps me from using this player as default. I need to review audio files fast and by position.

"just a simple question? is there anyone out there who can help me to remove the dropdown play list in my player?"
...
Click MPC's View menu and then uncheck Playlist.
(Or simply use Ctrl+7, without using View.)
(I wonder if I will ever get any answers, here? ;)

Probably the most flexible little player on the planet! :)
(This is probably the wrong place to ask? And probably already answered, somewhere else?)
It will play the movie below, perfectly, the first time. But then, it seems to like to jump-forwards when repeating that same movie, with the looping option? (And this is a much newer mpgs movie format.) And I am using Windows XP with the newest K-Lite klcodec375f up-grade.
(The movie's specs)
KLCP.MPEG 398KB
Audio: MPEG Audio 44100Hz stereo 192Kbps [Audio]
Video: MPEG1 Video 640x480 29.97fps 2560Kbps [Video]

(Using Notepad on a .mpcpl file, you see this.)
MPCPLAYLIST
1,type,0 (What does that "0" mean, exactly?)
1,filename,a1.mpg (This line is obvious)
...
I've read several mpc_help files.

Great light weight player but useless since the vmr7/9 renderless mode (which are needed for subtitles) give me terrible tearing. Does anyone know if they're planning on solving this?

I love this small footprint, deceptively unadorned program. I love being able to drag a folder with nearly every format vid and even image files to MPC, confident that all will play, even flv vids.
However, I am concerned about Secunia's recent "End of life" determination for MPC. Unpatched security vulnerabilities are cited.
Anyone know of fixes out there...?

@Grandaddie, source code for MPC 6.4.9.1 is available on the sourceforge.net website under the Guliverkli2 project.
@J, enable "auto-load subtitles" in MPC options. Then it will work again.
@Xtreme_techie, you need ffdshow for decoding FLV1 video.
@mec, get ffdshow.

This 6.4.9.1 is not a guliverkli version. That's why some of you are experiencing problems with 6.4.9.1 and not 6.4.9.0. Something is fishy about this. MPC is still my fav overall video player, and I'll stick to the guliverkli version.

v6.4.9.0 is able to render the subtitle for mkv files but v6.4.9.1 seems to break it.. The subtitle is not showing on the player..
Using WMP, the subtitle for the same file is working fine...
This really puzzles me...

John Doe, you are the stupidest person I ever come across, why don't you go back to the grocery store and pack bags (if you dislike mpc, which is free anyway, why did you give it a 5/5?). Even Windows media player needs to have codecs added for non-standard files, e.g. divx. Codecs are maintained by third parties, and get updated independently of media player. Since media player doesn't get updated that often, it could replace any new codecs you have with old ones.
Problems also occur if people have installed too many codecs / codec packs. Remove everything you've added, and then install just the bare minimum (e.g. latest xvid codecs, which also decode divx).
Gabest, I think Media player Classic is great, keep up the good work and ignore the clueless whingers (as I'm sure you do).

This is the stupidest media player I've ever come across. The user is responsible for installing the software necessary to allow it to play anything? Ridiculous. Either design the player to include the codecs or go back to bagging groceries for a living.

remember, you need good codec(s) to go with mpc. if you get failed to render file, more than likely you don't have the codec for that movie. ffdshow is the one i recommend. ffdshow + mpc will play 90% of everything you throw at it.

loli@yahoo: All you have to do is go into options, under playback there is output, and the default under DirectShow video is Overlay Mixer. Change it to System Default or VMR9 renderless if you want subtitles with .avi videos. This should fix it.
Yeah MPC's the best.
