Acelp.net Audio Codec is a speech codec for Windows Media Player, recommended by Microsoft and created by VoiceAge, a well-known speech and audio codecs supplier.

Acelp.net Codec is appreciated by RealNetworks, too, as they use it to encode speech with superior results.

The sounds encoded with Acelp.net Codec at 16 kbps have almost the same quality as the MP3 format at 64 kbps. Other standards using Acelp.net Codec are EFR GSM, IS-136, TETRA, G.723.1, G.729 and G.729 Annex A.

Additionally, the latest versions of this application have been optimized for online use, meeting the demands of both networks and PCs.

Thus, this technology can be used for broadcasting over Internet, multimedia conferencing and multimedia email.

It is expected for the Acelp.net Codec to gain more popularity in time and become widespread. It is already appreciated by RealNetworks and Microsoft; it is used as a low bit rate speech codec in RealAudio and Microsoft’s Media Player and Audible.

The Acelp.net Codec contains a dual rate codec (8.5/6.5 kbps), a fixed-rate codec (5.0 kbps) and a wideband codec (16kbps). Bit rates are changed automatically by the codec when necessary, in order to deal with network inconsistencies.

The main advantage of this technology is minimizing consequences of errors while improving error correction possibilities in case of data losses. The communication channel becomes more reliable using frame concatenation and interlacing.

When Acelp.net Codec is missing, the audio codec tag 130 should be displayed.

Acelp.net Codec is a compact and reliable tool which will make it possible for you to play audio files using standards based on the ACELP technology. The codec comes completely free and is easy to install and use.
