Actually they might have regardlessly clicked the NO button on the warning message that states:

"Windows Media Player yadda yadda yadda might not be able to play this file yadda yadda yadda Would you still like to Windows Media Player(11) to play file yadda yadda yadda?"

And they might have also clicked the tick-box saying not to show that message again.

and THUS!it never played mp3 files again Cause really if they didnt Tick on the box then they still have an option if they'd play the file But nevertheless WMP(11) can play mp3.

it just warns you that it MIGHT NOT support the file type cause its made to play WMA file

MORAL LESSON!!!
Read messages carefully. Take the risk CLICK YES on that message if you want to play mp3 files.

Hope its not as jumbly as my literary works
And more importantly HOPE IT HELPED.

I would like to point out to review number 132 from Thomas. He mentioned Nvidia Pure video decoder in his system. I believe there is a lot to answer to the capabilities and problems of WMP 11.

I have currently removed Nvidia graphic card from my system in order to upgrade to new one and had to wait on delivery for a while as my daughter snatched mine for gaming on her system. Believe it or not my WMP11 no longer streaming video of the internet despite the fact that my system still working with its own Intel graphic chipset 946GZ or similar and provides all normal browsing with decent graphics. If all of you carefully check the Windows path in WMP 11 it leads to one of those plug-ins like Corel, Nvidia, Ati and couple others. I believe this is how it works together.

Microsoft leaving some things for others to take care of. In this instance all of those codecs and converters of files as modern Desktops and Laptops come prepacked with graphic cards. There is no need for Microsoft to extend the size of its WMP 11 to the point where it takes hours to download.

This is only an opinion with some answers for myself aswell. All the best to everyone on this forum.

Kindest regards.

What a lame comments... Upgrade or reinstall your ancient, broken Windows XP. WMP has no bugs and works fine. You PC is propably full of registry errors and malware. If you cannot play mp3, it's not WMP fault.

I have never had any trouble playing my MP3 files until I downloaded Windows Media Player 11, then I got an error msg that codecs were missing. I downloaded that codec pack and then I still got the errors, but Windows Media Player had on the bottom that codecs aquired. Nothing I did were rid the errors. I then used RealPlayer and NO PROBLEM whatsoever! If I can help it I will never use Windows Media Player.

Why is it that Microsoft is lazy to fix such bugs in WMP? Despite the fact that its got cutting edge technologies...

Well I think in the future they will think about it...

Perfect solution for codec problem using WMP11.
Select from right column of this page either or both VLC and/or K-lite Codec Pack if you are not getting video. Amazing even WMP11 now works too! I also enjoy the new downloads great video quality as well.

süper yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa several codecs missing on wmp11 on XP, although I installed the newest version of the DivX Codec, some files were still being rejected by wmp11. Now every single file is playable with the K-lite 15 package. Try it! :)

I would like to reply to Donna. I think to a degree her comments were valid. I have a problem following a long list of pages to find the files I need. I know, if I am that stupid why am I using a computer? Well when you are as old and slow as me it is still helpful. Anyway Donna I have tried several time to find a codec that will play my dvd files that open using the .ifo files. Please forgive my ignorance and tell me how to find these codecs. Please.
Thank you
John

Window Media Player 11 has good potential, but Microsoft doesn't seem to be interested in fixing it's bugs - particularly in playing Videos. I use it 3 computers, 1 with Vista, 2 with XP. I've checked several times for updates in the hopes of not having it crash most of the time I play videos, but I always get no update available messages.

Fortunately I have several media players available, but I liked WMP's features the few times it did play recently downloaded, or newly purchased movies. If MS would follow up on the program and listen to the users, it could be an excellent program.

Hey:)
My WMP11 Work Brilliant :D, i Dont Think Theres Any Problems With It. It Plays Any File I Want, Whether It Be Audio Or Video Formated, It Plays Every Type Of Video Including AVI. So I Dont Think That Its The Media Player At Fault But Maybee How You Operate Your Computers And The Codecs You Have Selected To Use, As Mine Works Every Time.
Maybee If Some People Would Take The Time Out Read And Figure Out How The Media Player Works And What Kind Of Software Is Required To Be Able To Play Certain Files Then There Would'nt Be So Many Bad Ratings And Complaint!!

Has anyone had the same problem as me. I bought a new Emachines small format computer with Vista Home Basic pre-loaded. WMP11 worked fine. Needed to upgrade to Vista Home Premium (for the multi-language abilities), but now WMP11 will not play audio CDs beyond 1 minute 3 seconds. DVDs OK. Data CDs OK. MP3 music discs OK, but it will not play ordinary music CDs. Emachines say I need a codec, but for music CDs? I don't think so. Anyone got any suggestions? Please can I go back to WMP10, but have you tried uninstalling WMP11?

WMP-11 is great if you have the codecs installed.
My WMP-11 Plays M-Peg 1 & 2, MP4, XviD, DivX, AVI.

The only mager codecs you need are
XviD Video Codec - which will also Decode DivX
AC3 Filter - Will fix that problem for all you people who have video but no audio, if it doesnt fix that problem your video file has been converted to a diffrent audio file which WMP-11 will not play.
The Most common Audio Files are Mp3 & AC3.

XVID codec: which version shoul i download?

I have WMP 11 running on a Windows XP (32bit) system. I have two problems if someone could help me with.

1. WMP 11 use to play DVD's just fine, now when I play a DVD, I have no audio. The DVD works fine if I use something like Nero to play it. I have tried reinstalling WMP 11 but still no luck.

2. I have some skins for WMP 11(xp) that had sounds when you activated the shutter on them. Now the sounds don't play.

Please can someone help me?

P.S. WMP 11 works just fine for everything eles including my MP3's.

You know, I have never been so frustrated with those Microsoft bloodsuckers before in all my life, but I can certainly say that your Windows XP codec package helped me immensely and solved my problems in an instant. God bless you, seriously!

There should be more people like you in this dark, cruel world. (Sorry if I sound like a suicide jumper).
Once again, my deepest thanks, friend. I am in your debt. Keep up the righteous crusade against Internet Terrorism!

Vista isn't that bad. The problem to me seems that most user's are cot up in stuff there unsure of. your video's aren't working because they need codecs in witch Microsoft does not supply. They support other company's who will sell you codec's packages or, you can load codecs onto your PC. the question is do you know where to find them or how to down load them and install. i hear a lot of people writing rubbish about windows vista, and its all meaningless. learn to use it. it's pretty easy.

Been using windows Vista since it came out, i own 2 desktop PC's and a laptop. had there issues, worked out the solutions.

if running Vista... You have to go into your VLC program, Settings - preferences - extend the Video option - click on "output modules" - Check "advanced options" box - Change the Default option to "OpenGL video output" worked for me, and I guarantee, almost 100% it will work for any other Vista user.
