Windows Media Lite will allow you to play and stream Windows Media files without having to install Windows Media Player
This package is specially for those people who have removed Windows Media Player 7/9/10 from Windows XP/2003 using tools like nLite or XPlite, but do want to be able to play and stream Windows Media content. This package is also useful for Windows 2000 users who only have Windows Media Player 6.4 installed.
After installing this package you should be able to play Windows Media content in your browser and also in most players (for example Media Player Classic). Even those websites that normally require WMP9 or higher to be installed.
Features of Windows Media Lite 2.4
• Windows Media codecs
With these you can play Windows Media files in almost every media player.
• Windows Media Format runtimes
Required for playing Windows Media files. It is not needed nor recommended to install this if you have Window Media Player 7/9/10 installed.
• Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control
The basic ActiveX control for playing embedded Windows Media in Internet Explorer. Most sites require a newer version like the one below.
• Windows Media Player core components and Internet Explorer plugin
This is specially for those people who have removed Windows Media Player 7/9/10 from Windows, for example using tools like nLite or XPlite. This is also useful for Windows 2000 users who only have WMP 6.4 and don't want to install a newer version. This will only install a few core files of WMP, not the whole player. After installing this (and the Windows Media Format runtimes) you should be able to play Windows Media content in Internet Explorer. It is not needed nor recommended to install this if you already have Window Media Player 7/9/10 installed.
• Windows Media plugin for Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape and Opera
For playing Windows Media in those browsers. Requires the Windows Media Format runtimes and the Windows Media Player core components to be installed.
• Audio codecs
Three audio codecs that are already included in a default Windows installation. You only need this if you have removed these codecs using for example nLite. Contains Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec, Windows Media Audio Codec and Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec.
- Do NOT use this package if you have Windows Media Player

Hey folks - This version of Windows Media Lite Player has been fixed. Especially the uninstall part of program!!
It backs up dll's and registry entries that were previous used before the program was installed(Previous State for Media Player 6.4)!! Safe to use in Windows 2000 that has only Windows Media Player 6.4 installed from Microsoft! Works great with K-lite Codecs Packs! A must if you don't want upgrade Microsoft Windows Media Player to 7,8,and 9!!
In all recent Windows versions Windows Media Player is installed by default, but some tools (like nLite and XPlite) allow you to remove Windows Media Player from your system or even prevent it from ever being installed. The downside to this is that vital components for Windows Media playback are also removed. As a result you won't be able to play or stream Windows Media content. A solution for this problem is Windows Media Lite, which restores those vital components. The very user-friendly installation is fully customizable, which means that you can install only those components that you want.
