GPL MPEG-1/2 Filter is no longer updated by its developer - the last version here is from 2004. It may still run, but it gets no fixes for newer Windows versions or formats.

Maintained alternatives that may do the same job:

Apart from playing MPEG1 and MPEG2 streams, you can use this application as a DVD decoder for unencrypted discs.

This lightweight decoder needs to be installed a bit differently compared to similar applications.

Open the MpegDecoder012.msi file in order to run setup.

Make sure you have Microsoft Installer on your system, because GPL MPEG-1/2 DirectShow Decoder Filter has a Microsoft Installer package.

Once you have deployed GPL MPEG-1/2 DirectShow Decoder Filter to your computer, just sit back and relax.

You will be able to play the media contents targeted by this codec hassle-free.

I can't get this to work. I'm trying to open a mkv file in divx player and it keeps asking for this codec. i've download it and installed it but still comes up asking for it. Can anyone help?

It really works for me,but not working for divx player..but using VLC Media Player and windows media player it works really well..
