Guys, any plans to make it stop breaking Hardware Acceleration on Windows Media Player?

That would be greatest feature along with the resolution/quality change.

Works with subtitles in MKV files but does not reckognise SRT and SUB files when playing AVI or MP4 files. (Using WMP 12 on Windows 7 64bit). How can we make it work with all files?

This is my problem too. works fine with mkv and video clip files, but not with mp4 files, anyone who is genius enough to solve this problem?

i need to know why this release and prior ones do not work at all with Avi extensions files and why the color in the render is not changeable like the version 2.23 ..

i used to play avi files and get yellow color when watching movies ... and this is not the first version to have this issue .. to shame that no one noticed that or mentioned that to you .. but i thought many said this earlier ... or only me having this problem .. pleas help me if i am the only one facing such issue

Version 2.40 doesn't work to me (I use a PC with Win7 32), but 2.39 worx fine.

Thanks to the developers!

This works fine with Windows Media Player 12 as long as the seek bar isnt used. If I skip ahead or back the subtitles become unsynchronized. The subtitles are displayed as though the portion of the video I just skipped to is the beginning of the clip and the timing is thrown off.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how were you able to correct it? Thanks.

had the same problem, which is barely mentioned anywhere (?). this should get the work

done:http:shark007.net/win7codecs.html
tool location: *Program Files/Win7codecs/Tools/Settings32.
exe setting (one solution): Reset All (in case you changed s.th.) (tab)config VobSub Subtitles (so that you can change text style and position e.g.)

Hi. I was able to use Directvobsub with PowerDvd 10. I just upgraded to PowerDvd 11 and it plays the subs inside the player. Directvob is not able to load them externally.

There are no options in PowerDvd11 for subs - i.e to change font size, color or change the display position for e.g. of a .srt file.

Is there any way to get Directvobsub to work with PowerDvd 11 or if not currently possible, could it be made compatible with PowerDvd 11 in a future release?

Thank you.

@Jack,
Win7 x64 uses as default the WMP x86. That's why it didn't work. Also, you can't set WMP x64 as default. A simple solution is to create a shortcut ( of the x64 ) on your SuperBar and when you want to see a movie or something, open the x64 from the shortcut and the files through WMP.

Both versions working perfectly.

I loaded the DirectVobSob 64 bit version for my Win 7 64 bit machine but it didn't work. I then loaded the x86 version (not 64 bit) and it started working. Also, now the subtitles show whether or not I have subtitles selected on the play menu for WMP.

Anyway, if you have a problem with Win 7 64 bit, try loading the non-64 bit version.

i did see the subtitle but it doesn't show hebrew language....it did show different signs. what do i do?

You should use the configuration option to set the Text settings at the Main tab correctly. Press the button where Arial appears. The style Editor window will then be displayed.

Click now on the second button below the font (showing default) and change it to Hebrew (177) then click Apply at the bottom and you are done.Good luck!

There is a nasty bug in external sub loading, if the file name has several dots, for example Movie.DTS.x264.sub then it will only be seen as x264.sub and the subtitle won't be loaded.. A lot of releases are named this way so unless you rename them yourself they won't work..

Hopefully this will be fixed in future releases..

Actually after looking closer it seems to be subtitle format related and not filename, for some reason most subtitles work fine if they are in .srt format.

They are also loaded in .sub format but display only temporarily if the display is refreshed. Weird to say the least. Using win7 mediaplayer & MCE (tested x64 & x86).

I had brand new Windows7 64-bit HomePremium OS. It has all the latest bells-and-whistles for home users Microsoft has to offer. Except subtitles in Windows Media Player (version 12).

Doh! I was really surprised WMP still didn't support SUB/SRT subtitle files out of the box.

I tried "everything" and finally gave up. Downloaded VLC video player and it supported subtitles out of the box. It would have been OK for me except that subtitle fonts looked a bit ugly and blocky when a video was in full screen mode. I guess I could have tweaked it somehow to look better but I was just looking for a solution, not tweaks.

Then I came across DirectVobSub 2.40.x 32bit version (WMP in 64bit Windows7 is by default 32bit application. Weird, I know). Installed DirectVobSub, launched WMP and voila! Nice looking subtitles out of the box. That's what I call a solution.

Thx DirectVobSub developers. You have done something MS should learn from you.

You make it sound so easy. =o) I have Windows7 64-bit HomePremium OS as well as Windows Media Player (version 12). Downloaded DirectVobSub-2.40.3093_x64 which didnt work and then I read your review about WMP being 32 bit by default (which is why Im replying to you).

I uninstalled the above mentioned version and installed vsfilter.2.39_nt instead (since I figured I dont know what Im doing so Ill let the installer do it).Under my Program Files (x86) there is a folder called DirectVobSub and within that folder are only two things. An uninstall.exe and a vsfilter.dll file.

Is the vsfilter.dll file supposed to be placed somewhere else? If so, could you please tell me where? I got lost reading the help guides.Your prompt response and help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have to say that I 'm Having the same issues ...
I Installed a pack of codecs and it had the new version and didn't work ...

So i Instaled the 2.39 version and it works like a charm ...
Hopefully, They can resolve this minor issue ...

Because if I have to upgrade the pack it means that all codecs will be updated and running, but if thios doesn't, I have to install a older version, which $uck$, but it's the only way ..
Thre's anyway we could contact the developer ?

it works well on my windows 7 on power dvd 10 mark II ultra version.

:)

Hi, how did you make it run with PDVD 10 ? I have win 7 x64 and tried the Always load option in DirectVobSub and what it does is:it appears for a very brief period in the notification area of the taskbar and then disappears. Of course, the movie doesnt show any subtitle (its an AVI file with a SUB extension, if it makes any difference).

I have the same problem in PowerDVD 11.Thanks in advance,James.

Works like a charm in my Windows Media Player 10 for XP. Just install the program, rename your srt or sub file to the exact name of your video file, go to play - captions and subtitles - on if available. And you got them.

This is a very good program. But I have a problem.
I can see two sets of the same subtitles on my video (using Media player classic and WMP 11). The one is embeded in the player and the other one is from the vobsub. When I click on Hide Subtitles from the green arrow I can see only the one set of subtitles. But I have a problem when the subs r not in english e.g. greek. The embeded subs doesn't show greek just different symboles, the second set show correct greek.
Can anyone help me? I would like to see the external set of subs only.

Hi there,

I thought the problem which most of you guys had was my problem as well. (The black screen)

My problem is kinda different and i blame DirectVobSub as well.

My problem :

When i'm making some footage with windows moviemaker everything is going smooth. Untill :

Untill i put a jpg or avi/wmv etc in it, and i want to put an overlaytitle on it (for example the credits) my screen just get stuck.

The reason i blame DirectVobSub is that the program seems to multiply it self like 10 times :/

I get sometimes 5 or 8 or sometimes even 10 green arrows in the system tray.

Anybody experienced this before, or better, got a solution for it?

Thx in forward,
Greetz Dave

I am having exactly the same problem. The green arrows in the system tray start multiplying and the Windows DVD Maker stops working. HVING THIS PROBLEM WITH 2.39 ON Vista. Any luck with you?
