LameXP 4.02

Decent program, been using this one since v3.0. I sometimes prefer EAC+Lame: displays a DOS window that shows how the (VBR) encoding is being distributed over the various bitrates.
If you're not interested in that kind of information, LameXP works perfectly fine: with individual progress bars.

This is a fake "free" program. It will only run for a short time then it will abort unless you "update" the program. There is a "Disable Update Reminder" under "Advanced Options" but that setting is ignored.
Last time i "updated" a "free" program (Revo Uninstaller), the only thing happend is that a nag screen got installed urging me to by the "Pro" version of the program instead. This is obviously the same sort of scam.
Users of "free" programs have no rights - just imagine a commercial program aborting every start up unless you "update". (Not that I could update anyway - not all 'puters are connected to internet. I can only "update" the program by installing a new version of the program which would then only work for a short time)
This review definitely is WRONG!
LameXP is free software released under the GNU license, the source code is freely available. There is no time limit. And if there was a time limit, everybody could easily remove it from the source code, because... well.. its OpenSource software. Maybe that guy who wrote this review got confused (either that, or he intentionally is spreading FUD).
There are some BETA (experimental!) versions of LameXP - intended for testing only - which ask for update after 30 days. If you dont want to help the development by testing BETA versions, then dont use the STABLE version and thats it. There is NO time limit in STABLE version for sure.

great app, i have been using it since a lot of time, i hate the new features, they are bloat (autoupdates, shell integration, many annoying popup windows) but they can be disabled
this thing is the best quality encoder, you can setup the encoding, and also it is so fast without losing quality like other apps, really amazing using 4 cores,
the gui is ok too,
great app, almost perfect

LameXP 3.07 Xmas Edition

Very simple and quick, almost as good as Audiograbber as it allows preset VBR settings, AG just has V1~9. BUT for Chr**tsake disable the auto update checker, its driving me nuts...

Finally! When the developer removed the feature for accepting Mp3 as input, I stopped using it but I know this is the best conversion tool period (.) Now that it seems he corrected the past mistake, "Honey, I'm home"!!! ;-)

Obnoxious little program - it hacks its way into your registry and adds "Convert with Lame XP" to the right-click menu of every audio file, including the "Send To" menu. If you try to delete that manually, next time you use the program it will create a shortcut there again.
Also, there is no way of getting rid of the pop-up window "An update is available etc."
Really annoying program. Use something else instead.
