AVIcodec is a multimedia analyser which provides the codec information you need in order to play a media file. Not being able to open a video or an audio file? Run AVIcodec and it will even tell you where to download the necessary codec from.
Compared to other diagnosis tool which only offer support for a single media format, AVIcodec can natively recognize AVI, ASF, WMV, Real, Ogg, MPEG and DVD formats. It also offer support to formats handled by DirectShow.
There is more about AVIcodec than just telling you what codec you need.
The application is user-friendly and small-sized; it uses a low amount of system resources and it allows batch operations. This means that you can process more files at one time, which saves a lot of time and effort.
After asking AVIcodec to examine your media files, you are provided with a link to the codec it needs in order to play.
You just need to download the corresponding pack and you will be able to play the file.
AVIcodec will also take a look at the codecs and filters installed on your computer and tell you their state: enabled, disabled, location, version etc. In case of codec conflicts, AVIcodec helps you disable the codecs or filters causing problems.
Additional features which make AVIcodec an easy-to-use tool is the drag and drop functionality and the possibility to export the information.
AVIcodec has an intuitive interface and it is friendly with your CPU. One of the last improvements was FLV files analysis.
The only drawback is that AVIcodec has not been updated anymore since 2007. The results it provides you with may not be 100% reliable, but still it is worth giving it a try if you are not using the latest codecs.
