Before you call me crazy I better provide a little history.

I'm a partner in a business that switched to Linux distros several
years ago. We started the business back in the days of Windows 3.1.
One of the partners created some unique software for 98SE. We all
keep copies of this customized system at home because the software
is still very useful.

All the media players and converters I've tried that claim to be
compatible with 98SE have failed. A few hours ago I found Windows
Essentials Codec Pack_v1.0. The combination of Media Player Classic
with all those codecs seemed like the answer to my problems.

During the install a "Runtime Error" box appeared which froze the
system. Before the system locked up completely I managed to take
a screenshot of the error box. Please see attached jpeg.

If I can't easily fix this problem I'm quiting this endless search
for a decent media player that works with 98SE.

Thanks guys!

You could try MPC alone. Although, an upgrade to a contemporary OS isn't a bad idea :)
