HC encoder can be used in conjunction with DVD ReBuilder
in order to obtain high quality DVD to DVD-R backups.
The encoder is available in two versions: a GUI and a batch version which can be controlled using an INI file or command line parameters.
The output produced by HC encoder is an ordinary M2V file which can be used directly in an authoring program of your choice.
The encoding quality varies from fast (lowest quality) to best. The quality can be set using various commands and the same thing happens with all the parameters you can control in HC encoder: bit rate, the GOP structure, quantization matrices, encoding speed and so on.
HC encoder also has a restart option, which allows you to re-run the second pass in the graphic user interface version. This action can be completed on condition that the database file is still present.
The DBS file provides all the information needed to run the second pass again.
The encoding speed provided by HC encoder depends on the performance of your system, on the availability of CPU extensions and on the complexity of the video material. If your computer is fast, encoding a 2-hour video will take about two hours and a half. DV video can take a longer time to encode.
HC encoder is one of the best applications of its kind due to the fast encoding speed, the user controllable GOP structure and the diversity of advanced options you can use. Obtaining high-quality DVD backups using HC encoder is completely free.
This application offers support for all MPEG2 SD and HD resolutions, including 1920x1152 px.
