Boom is an audio player (released by Peter Pawlowski, foobar2000's developer) for users who like to keep things simple.

Although there is plenty of easy software available, not all these programs are reliable and deliver good performance.

Boom offers you the advantages of easy operation and lack of issues that could affect your music listening experience at the same time.

One of the first benefits provided by Boom is the fact that you don’t need to install the application to your computer.

You don’t need administrator rights and you may also keep the software on a portable storage device. Moreover, the program won’t affect your Windows registry and will not appear in your Start menu.

Main features of Boom include smooth transitions between tracks, gapless playback of files that are properly encoded, multilanguage support, showing the contents of your music folders in a structured manner, ReplayGain support, and a simplified version of the foobar2000 Properties dialog for emergency tagging needs.

The most popular audio formats supported by Boom are MP3, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WavPack, Musepack (MPC), AIFF, WAV, WMA, and MP4/M4A.

System requirements for Boom are Windows 7 or newer, although the application can also run on Windows XP with limited functionality.

Boom will meet most of your audio playback needs, but there are some features missing from its portfolio: no Internet radio playback, no audio CD playback, and no integration with Windows Explorer – this means you need to manually use the “open with”/”choose default program” for every relevant file type.

Even though the interface could be improved, Boom is worth giving it a try f you need an efficient media player which doesn’t put a strain on your computer performance. It’s a simple, straightforward app that does exactly what it’s intended – play your audio files using a limited amount of resources.
